Empowerment of women leads to development of a good family, good society and, ultimately, a good nation. When the woman is happy, the home is happy. When the home is happy, the society is happy and when the society is happy the state is happy and when the state is happy there will be peace in the country and it will develop at greater pace. - Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam
Introduction
As we celebrate Women's day with great pride and enthusiasm, it's extremely important to look at the true condition of women in our country. Beyond the festivities and tributes there lies a complex narrative of challenges and constant struggle.
The State Of Women In India
India, a land of diversity and contrast, showcases a spectrum of experiences for its women. While we as a country have witnessed significant progress in various fields including education and employment, on the ground reality women in our country still continue to struggle with societal norms, gender-based violence and limited access to opportunities.
Education
Education, often considered the catalyst for empowerment, yet millions of girls, especially in the rural parts of the country lack access to quality education due to multiple reasons such as the unavailability of schools in the area, poor financial condition of the family, or in some cases the society doesn't want the girl to study.
Gender-Based Violence
Gender-based violence, including domestic abuse, sexual harassment and trafficking remains an issue in our country.
Even after legislative measures and awareness campaigns, a huge number of women go through this behind closed doors in silence due to societal stigma and inadequate support systems.
The Way Forward
International Women's Day serves as a reminder of progress made so far by our women and by us as a society and the work that lies ahead in the future for the advancement of the lives of women in our country. As today we celebrate the achievements and resilience of women across the country, let us look forward to a future where every woman and girl can live free from discrimination, violence and oppression.
